Our Favorite Restaurants on Capitol Hill

Seattle is a global city with a wealth of attractions that could have you zigzagging through its many neighborhoods. But we wouldn’t judge you if you spent an entire weekend exploring just one: Capitol Hill. Despite its diminutive size—a whopping 1.64 square miles—it’s known as the city’s primary hub of nightlife, eating and entertainment. Sitka and Spruce

Introverts and shy-guys beware, this rustic eatery’s communal seating lends itself to unexpected, organic encounters. We recommend putting your smartphone on silent, and enjoying your king salmon crudo in good company. Sitka and Spruce: 1531 Melrose Ave; 206-324-0662

Terra Plata

The window-lined, wooden interior of this stylish eatery is nearly as impressive as the verdant rooftop patio overlooking Capitol Hill’s skyline. If available, try the lamb tartare, or roast pig with chorizo, clams and chicharrones. This is fine Mediterranean dining with a laidback, Pacific Northwest, “earth to table” flair. Stateside

French techniques and Vietnamese flavors coexist at Capitol Hill’s fresh and modern Stateside. Try the bu cha hanoi–pork patties and belly are bathed in a thick caramel fish marinade and served alongside light, fresh vermicelli-filled imperial rolls. Stateside: 300 E Pike St; 206-557-7273

Mezcaleria Oaxaca

This family-run restaurant often uses local ingredients, and ingredients sourced from extended family in Oaxaca whenever possible. We love their deep, complex mole negro and their light and zingy chile relleno. Once you’ve demolished a few dishes downstairs, head up to their gorgeous rooftop patio for lighter snacks, and more smoky mezcal-based cocktails. Mezcaleria Oaxaca: 422 E Pine St; 206-324-0506

Lark

Plush, royal-blue booths and pressed white tablecloths define this upscale New American spot serving small plates, and specializing in seafood. Book a table for your next special occasion. Lark: 952 E Seneca St; 206-323-5275

Nue

After eating his way through 50 countries, restaurateur Chris Cvetkovich built Nue as a tribute to all of his favorite street food finds. His eclectic, award-winning menu includes delights like Syrian kale and carrot salad, Puerto Rican mofongo, and Jamaican jerk chicken. Nue: 1519 14th Ave; 206-257-0312
