Seattle Businesses That Give Back

It’s the holiday season once again, and we know that you are stretched super thin between getting ready to take time off work, planning all of the big meals, attending the parties, and buying the gifts. In the midst of all the chaos, don’t forget to treat yourself to something special. One idea is a luxury getaway to Seattle, which you can get at a discount during Pan Pacific’s upcoming Cyber Monday sale.

While visiting, cash in on some of your Cyber Monday savings to enjoy the city properly. These are some of our favorite and most valued businesses and local organizations to visit.

SHOP

Join Shop

Join Shop is one of our favorite local Seattle businesses. Founded in 2008, its mission has always been to give the local design community a large and united voice. The collective of designers combine to create exceptional events, pop-ups, and trade shows. Join Shop offers services to help young artists hone their art, and craft, while also providing opportunities to find mentorship and collaborators. Check out the collective’s calendar before your Seattle vacation to see what cool happenings will take place during your trip.

Elliot Bay Book Company

In the middle of Seattle’s popular Capitol Hill neighborhood, Elliot Bay Book Company is one of the city’s oldest and best-stocked shops. The full-service bookstore is home to over 150,000 titles set up on shelves across its multi-level interior. The independently owned bookstore has been a stable of the area since its opening the early 70s, and it’s still a go-to for new and used books, literary events, and even a cup of coffee.

EAT

FareStart

Some of Seattle’s tastiest offerings are also its most heartwarming. FareStart is a Seattle-based organization that has been providing effective solutions to local poverty, homelessness, and hunger over the last quarter century. To help bridge cultural and personal barriers in the community, FareStart offers work and life-skills training to help those in need succeed and work in the foodservice industry, including at its namesake restaurant. Enjoy the award-winning cuisine in several FareStart-run restaurants and cafés, including New American favorite Maslow’s by Farestart and the ever-popular namesake, FareStart with its rotating menu showcasing local produce.

SUPPORT

Mary’s Place

Mary’s Place is one of the most important organizations in all of the Pacific Northwest. It provides safe and inclusive shelter that support women, children and families breaking away from homelessness. When you’re in town, you can volunteer to teach a class, tutor a student, help with employment applications, and donate other professional services to Mary’s. You can also donate, or attend one of the many events that take place to help raise funds and collect helpful supplies.

Orion Center

YouthCare is another fabulous organization doing great things for the Seattle community and those who are less fortunate. It works to end youth homelessness, and help young people feel empowered to achieve their potential. With 13 sites throughout Seattle, YouthCare is a collection of shelters, transitional living programs, and work-placement programs. At YouthCare’s Orion Center, you can volunteer to serve meals to help support the community’s homeless youth.
